Film on stage: "The Random Caruso"

Time for a little log-rolling. One of the sharpest guys I knew back in high school was a kid named Andy Clarke. These days he's calling himself Andrew, he's a Boston-based playwright when he's not teaching, and he's got a rich little Hollywood comedy called "The Random Caruso" playing at the BCA Plaza Theatre through March 7. We're in Mamet-land here, to some extent, since the mordant laughs spring from the machinations of a big action star (Robert Pemberton), his ambitious personal assistant (Michael Forden Walker), and a sultry actress/waitress (Tracy Oliverio, expertly cynical) with plans of her own. But Clarke's got a dyspeptically aware voice of his own and a gift for language, too: The film-within-the-play sequence, set in Elizabethan England, is a pleasure simply to listen to. Yes, I'm hopelessly biased. See it anyway.
