. . . if you wanted to get tickets to the screening of the restored "Metropolis" this Saturday evening at the Somerville Theatre, in Davis Square. What was the big deal? Well, the Alloy Orchestra will be accompanying it live. While it's not quite true to say that if you haven't seen "Metropolis" you haven't really seen a movie, it is indisputable that if you haven't seen it with the Alloys playing their quite-phenomenal score then you haven't really seen "Metropolis." As for why you'd want to see "Metropolis," here's Ty's review from last June when the restored version played the Coolidge.

Speaking of the Somerville, it's screening "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" March 11-13. People like to say it's the great Boston movie, etc., etc. Well, it's not -- not that there is one. The book is a whole lot better, for starters. But it's certainly an essential title in the Boston movie canon -- and how else would you ever get to hear Robert Mitchum shout out, "Num-bah faw, Bobby Aw!"?
