Wait, you CAN see one of the year's best movies in Boston

Update: Thanks to quick scrambling on the part of Strand Releasing and possibly some malcontented grumbling by local movie critics, "Oslo, August 31st" will be getting a Boston-area release -- at not one but two venues. The film will play five dates at the Museum of Fine Arts from Wednesday, August 29th through Monday, September 3, and will also get a limited engagement at the Somerville Theatre, appropriately starting on Friday, August 31st. I'm not saying you have to see "Oslo" (although it stands a good chance of landing on my year-end-best list), but at least you now have a chance to.

Following up on a side comment in my original post, more than a few readers reminded me that one of the reasons "Compliance" is playing Landmark theaters while "Oslo" gets shunted aside might be that the former is being released by Magnolia Pictures -- a distribution company owned by Landmark heads Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban. No one should begrudge any movie making it to the light of a commercial movie-house screen these days, but it'd be nice if the playing field were level. Just sayin'.
