Cinemania: worst first date movies

As fine a film as it may be, I don’t see Richard Linklater’s “Before Midnight” working romantic magic with couples seeing it for their first date.

Chances are it might be the last date, too. Some films are best saved for later in the relationship, or maybe never. Perhaps the worst first date movie ever was one that was seen in a movie, when Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle took Cybill Shepherd’s lovely and sophisticated Betsy to a porn flick on 42nd St in Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” (1976). Come to think of it, “Taxi Driver” is not a very smart first date movie, either.
