"The Great Debaters," starring Denzel Washington, is up for Best Motion Picture - Drama. Like Washington's "American Gangster," the film is based on a true story. Produced by Oprah Winfrey's production company, it tells the tale of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor who formed the first debate team at Wiley College.
