Blanchett received her first Oscar nomination for "Elizabeth" (1998), a film about the early reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Elizabeth's reign is threatened by traitors and opposing rulers, but her rule is constant. Though Blanchett lost the Academy Award to Gwyneth Paltrow, she did win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama.
