Based on a play by Oscar Wilde, "An Ideal Husband" (1999) is set in late-19th-century London. Blanchett plays the ideal wife, Lady Gertrude, to the ideal husband, Sir Robert Chiltern (Jeremy Northam). When a woman from Chiltern's past returns to blackmail him, chaos ensues as he tries to save his reputation and his marriage.
