  • Previous
Charlton Heston
President of the National Rifle Association
(1998-2003)

Though Heston was a registered Democrat for much of his life, he started leaning to the right in his later years, serving as president of the NRA and famously declaring at the 2000 convention that his gun could be taken when it was pried "from my cold dead hands." He stepped down in 2003 after announcing he was suffering from symptoms resembling Alzheimer's disease.
