Charlton Heston in 'Planet of the Apes'
"Planet of the Apes"
(1968)

In this 1968 film (remade in 2001 with Boston's own Mark Wahlberg), Heston played George Taylor, an astronaut who wakes up stranded on a planet where apes are civilized and dominant, and man has become the animal. Pictured, Heston takes a moment to chat with an actor in an ape costume onset.

"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!' It's one of the great lines in movie history, delicious precisely because Heston throws it down with such virile, outraged force." —Ty Burr, Globe Staff
