Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal plays the character of Rachel Dawes in the film.

Along with the rest of the cast, Gyllenhaal stars in the film with the late Heath Ledger, who died from an accidental drug overdose in January at age 28. Ledger played the role of the Joker in "The Dark Knight." Gyllenhaal's brother, actor Jake Gyllenhaal, previously starred alongside Ledger in 2005's "Brokeback Mountain."
