In the 1992 film "Patriot Games," Ford portrayed Jack Ryan, a former CIA agent whose family becomes the target of revenge after he interferes with an IRA assassination plot. The film is an adaptation of the Tom Clancy book "Patriot Games." Ford went on to reprise the role of Ryan in the 1994 follow-up film, "Clear and Present Danger," adapted from Clancy's novel of the same name.
