'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (original, 1984)

Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund, left) forever altered the concept of "sweet dreams" after he stalked — and killed — teens in their dreams that became realities. The victims were children of a lynch mob that hunted Krueger down and killed him years earlier.
