Ty Burr says ...
The hardest category to predict could go any which way, but the Academy may decide to honor America's choice of Bullock as their feisty leading lady. Call it a mid-life achievement award. Mirren's a power diva in "Station" but Cornish does as much, if not more, with less.

If you had said this fall that Sandra Bullock is going to win an Oscar, she would have done a spit take. But here we all are saying it. If she loses, it won't be to perrenial loser Meryl Streep, who does it again. (Meryl, just star as the phonebook!) In any case, Gabourey Sidibe, whose bubbly talk show appearances and vivid interior performance, has probably charmed enough voters and devastated enough moviegoers to make Sunday night even more interesting.
