Best Actress

Ty Burr, Boston Globe film critic
Ty Burr says ...
The fuss over Michelle Williams as Marilyn has died down—too bad, she's equally deserving — and Davis should collect for her aching portrayal of a weary, hopeful woman at a historic crossroads. Another deft performance from Streep is kept from greatness by the film's thin conception of Margaret Thatcher.

Wesley Morris, Boston Globe film critic
Wesley Morris says ...
Davis does so much so right in "The Help" that it's easy to overlook three problems. 1) The scene in which Davis's Aibileen Clark suddenly loses her grammar; 2) the politics of winning for playing a black maid seven decades after Hattie McDaniel; 3) Meryl Streep would lose for the 12th time in a row. It won’t matter. Davis makes you regret that the entire movie doesn’t revolve around her.
