Capone is top Latin nominee

NEW YORK -- Producer Tom Capone leads the nominees for the Latin Grammy Awards, set to air Sept. 1 on CBS from Los Angeles. Capone garnered five nominations, while Alvaro Alencar, Bebo Valdez, Alejandro Sanz, and Maria Rita each pulled down four.

Capone is up for producer of the year, album of the year, and best engineered album for Rita's self-titled set. He also netted two nominations in the record of the year category, for Rita's "A Festa" and Skank's "Dois Rios."

Other nominees for record of the year are Robi Draco Rosa's "Mas y Mas," the title tracks of Sanz's "No Es Lo Mismo," Valdes and Diego El Cigala's "Lagrimas Negras," and "Andar Conmigo" by Julieta Venegas.

Sanz, Rita, and Valdes and Cigala are also up for album of the year, alongside Kevin Johansen's "Sur O No Sur" and Cafe Tacuba's "Cuatro Caminos."

Other multiple-category nominees include Cafe Tacuba, Cigala, Rosa, Johansen, Mick Guzauski, Javier Limon, Pepe Loeches, Rafa Sardina, and Venegas.
