Gone country

January 13, 2008

Buxom blond beauties are heading to Nashville to seek their fortune. With a floundering film career and pop music proving a bust, JESSICA SIMPSON is at work on her first country album. Inspired by women like Reba McEntire and Shania Twain, Simpson is, God bless her, helping to write the songs for the album due out later this year.

Two-time "Dancing With the Stars" champ JULIANNE HOUGH is trading in her ballroom shoes for cowboy boots. The Utah native will squeeze the recording of her debut album, slated for April release, in between dates on the reality show's live concert tour.

Pop-folkie JEWEL is no stranger to Music City, having recorded most of her previous albums there and serving as host on the USA network's "American Idol"-like competition "Nashville Star." This summer she releases her first independent album of torch and twang.

Of course, the fairest, most buxom of them all, DOLLY PARTON, has always been a country queen. For the past few years, however, Parton has focused on bluegrass and gospel music. With "Backwoods Barbie," due Feb. 5, Parton is aiming directly at mainstream country again.
