POP

Fools in love

Globe Staff / January 23, 2008

Jesse Ruben, a soft-voiced Boston singer-songwriter who sounds a bit like Damien Rice - if Rice wrote songs that were poppy (and angsty) enough to be played on "One Tree Hill," is celebrating his new release, "Aiming for Honesty," at the Paradise Lounge tonight. You'll probably leave the show with a crush on him. Joining Ruben is Amber Rubarth, a clever singer-songwriter from Brooklyn who sings a pleading break-up song called "You Will Love This Song" that makes mention of a romantic dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. You'll probably leave with a crush on her, too. 8 p.m. $7. Paradise Lounge, 969 Commonwealth Ave., 617-562-8800. thedise.com
