Rock picks

Tonight: Big Head Todd & the Monsters headline the Paradise Rock Club. TigerSaw plays the Middle East Upstairs. Copal is at the Lizard Lounge. Tomorrow: Super Furry Animals are at the Paradise Rock Club. The Everyday Visuals headline T.T. the Bear's Place. A special tribute night gets underway at the Lizard Lounge with a bevy of local bands, including the Pills, Rudds, and Gentlemen covering Wings, Nick Lowe, and Cheap Trick. Chris Brokaw and Geoff Farina are at P.A.'s Lounge with Ryan Lee Crosby. Andrea Gillis is at the Plough & Stars. Sunday: Frank Morey plays the Plough & Stars. Tuesday: The Lights Out continue their Abbey Lounge residency, with guests Reverse, the Bleedin Bleedins, Motion Sick, the Luxury, and Thick as Thieves. Thursday: Clouds are at Great Scott.

Jazz picks

Tonight: Mango Blue presents its Latin, jazz, and world-music grooves at the Regattabar. Tonight and tomorrow night: Powerful singer Rachelle Ferrell is at Scullers. Tomorrow night: Bulgarian-born pianist/composer Plamen Karadonev, whose music blends Balkan folk, classical, and jazz, celebrates his debut album, "Crossing Lines" at the Union United Methodist Church (485 Columbus Ave.). The vocal and instrumental duo of Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson, with special guests, pay tribute to the classic duets of Ray Charles and Betty Carter at the Regattabar. Sunday: The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra will perform pieces intended for its 35th annual Christmas concert snowed out in December - focusing on the sacred music of Duke Ellington, at Emmanuel Church. The exhilarating trio of pianist Pandelis Karayorgis, bassist Jef Charland, and drummer Luther Gray performs adventurous original music at the Lily Pad. Wednesday: Masterful vocalist Ron Gill sings songs by black composers at the Regattabar.
