Jazz picks
Tonight: The Brazilian jazz of Sergio Brandão & Manga Rosa, with a special guest bassist/vocalist, is at the Regattabar. Emerging jazz violinist Andrei Matorin brings his quartet to the Lily Pad. Tomorrow night: Pianist/composer Donal Fox helms the latest installment of his "Mashups in Blue Project," an exciting blend of jazz and classical music, at Scullers. The 18-piece Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra presents original compositions, including one by alto saxophonist Jim Hobbs of the Fully Celebrated Orchestra, at the Cambridge Family YMCA Theatre. Wednesday: Prodigious bassist John Patitucci brings his trio to the Regattabar. Portuguese vocalist Sara Serpa, with a quintet including fine pianist Vardan Ovsepian, is at Ryles. Thursday: Pianist Bill Charlap's marvelous trio opens a two-night stand at the Regattabar. Brookline wunderkind saxophonist/vocalist Grace Kelly is at Scullers. ![]()
