A cure for what ails us

Globe Staff / March 1, 2008

"When you sing gospel, you have a feeling there is a cure for what's wrong," Mahalia Jackson, the first "queen" of gospel, once said. You can get in on the feeling tonight and tomorrow at the Mystic Chorale Gospel Concert at Northeastern. Berklee College of Music alum Jonathan Singleton (above) will conduct more than 200 voices in numbers such as "Celebrate Me Home" and "Total Praise," backed by a four-piece band. The voices will increase when the audience is invited to get into the act on "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"; they'll provide the words, you provide the soul. Tonight at 8 (Sun 3:30 p.m.) $15; $10 age 5 through high school and seniors. Northeastern University's Blackman Auditorium, 360 Huntington Ave., Boston. 617-373-4700. gonu.com/tickets
