Boston Chamber Music Society
What are the chances that Mahler's much-loved song-symphony "Das Lied von der Erde" would be performed not once or twice but three times this season in the Boston area? For the Boston Chamber Music Society's final concert of the season, it will present Schoenberg's stripped-down arrangement of this masterwork, with mezzo-soprano Sarah Heltzel and tenor Marc Deaton as soloists. Also on the program will be Brahms's C Minor Piano Quartet and Mozart's Piano Trio in C Major (K. 548). May 18 at 7:30 p.m., Sanders Theatre. 617-349-0086, bostonchambermusic.org.
Intermezzo
This enterprising chamber opera company presents two local premieres: Satie's "Socrate" with Virgil Thomson's English translation, and the first performance of "A Last Goodbye" by composer-in-residence Charles Shadle and librettist Michael Ouellette. Stagings will be by Brian Price and Andrew Ryker; James Busby conducts. Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Massachusetts College of Art and Design's Tower Auditorium, 621 Huntington Avenue. 617-899-4261, intermezzo-opera.org.
