THE 1 DAILY PICK-ME-UP
Sharon Jones inspired Amy Winehouse, who got famous using Jones's sharp backup band, the Dap-Kings. But while Winehouse is good, Jones is great, not to mention sane. Her 2007 album with the Dap-Kings, "100 Days, 100 Nights," is a daily must-listen. Each of these 10 songs has undeniable heart and timeless soul. They'll keep you moving forward. - MATTHEW GILBERT

THE 1 BREATH OF FRESH (FOUL) AIR
For three seasons, the cast of MTV's "The Hills" has engaged in a semaphore of vapid stares and hair tossing that stands in for dialogue. Thankfully, Kelly Cutrone has screeched into town. The PR tigress behind People's Revolution, Cutrone is sneering and dictatorial, with unkempt hair and the sallowest skin in LA. The producers know they've stumbled on a goldmine: teasers for the new season (it returns in August) feature Lauren and Whitney's new boss in all her wicked glory. For now, enjoy her in reruns. And please, someone get this biddy her own show! - HAYLEY KAUFMAN

THE 1 SUMMER SOUNDTRACK
You know that feeling. The first warm breeze hits, you're driving a Buick, and suddenly the Dairy Freeze pops into view. Is there any better soundtrack than Sirius Satellite Radio's garage-rock station? On one recent morning, I was tuned into Sirius 25 for a triple shot of the Saints ("A Madman Wrecked My Happy Home"), Plimsouls ("A Million Miles Away"), and Sonics ("Louie, Louie"). And just as I pulled into the parking lot, Gigi Parker and the Lonelies kicked into "Beatles, Please Come Back." I waited a few minutes before heading to my windowless office space. - GEOFF EDGERS

THE 1 JAZZ OBSESSIVE
There are no obsessives like jazz obsessives, and there is no jazz obsessive like Phil Schaap, who for nearly four decades has hosted shows on Columbia University's WKCR (streamed at www.wkcr.org). You don't need to have ever heard Schaap's legendary morning show, "Bird Flight," to relish David Remnick's profile of him in the May 19 New Yorker. Don't miss the Miles Davis cameo and expect wet eyes at the end. - MARK FEENEY

THE 1 MUSIC BLOG
I stumbled upon the soul music blog Soulbounce (soulbounce.com), but the wry humor of the site's four writers quickly made it a favorite bookmarked page. The site's reaction to the announcement of Madonna's visit to BET's "106 & Park" is a hoot. Also visit to read a review of British singer Estelle's new CD, watch Gnarls Barkley's latest video, "Going On", or hear songs by the much-buzzed-about Santogold. - VANESSA E. JONES

THE 1 USHER PARODY
An urgent concern raised by the supersinger's smash "Love in This Club" is whether his proposition is even hygienic. Hip-hop wiseacre Will Hatcher thinks not. Hatcher dons a shower cap to explain how to rinse off a long night on the dance floor: Scrub in This Tub! Close-ups of soap and a tasteful bubble bath follow. Find the video at willhatcher.com - WESLEY MORRIS
