ROCK

On a country road

Fans who only know Jim Ward from his former bands, At the Drive-In and Sparta, might be a bit surprised by the bucolic leanings of his new outfit, Sleepercar, which hits the Middle East Upstairs tonight. Ward once joked about forming a country band after getting hooked on Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers. That came to fruition in April, when Sleepercar released "West Texas," an album of sweeping Americana and country rock with all the jangly guitar and pedal steel fixins'. Boston rockers Harris open. 18+ 9 p.m., $10. Middle East Upstairs, 480 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge. 617-864-3278. mideastclub.com
