Tanglewood

More than a week before the festival's official opening, the first signs of life can be detected in Ozawa Hall. Tomorrow, chamber fans can indulge in the Tanglewood Music Center's String Quartet Marathon, with recitals at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. And on Thursday and Friday, there will be performances by the Mark Morris Dance Group. 617-266-1200 or bso.org.

Aston Magna Festival

When it comes to great composers as child prodigies, Mozart gets most of the attention but Mendelssohn was at least as precocious. This festival, run by the prominent Boston violinist Daniel Stepner (right), starts up its season with a program entitled "The Young Mendelssohn." It will feature that composer's String Quintet in A minor and his much-loved Octet, among other works. Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Daniel Arts Center, Simon's Rock College, Great Barrington; and June 29 at 3 p.m. at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. 800-875-7156 or astonmagna.org.
