The Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society (above) is not from Gloucester and they don't wear funny wooden shoes. But the Arlington-based troupe does celebrate New England's maritime history with a lively mix of Irish jigs, reels, Colonial-era tunes, nautical ballads, singalong chanteys, and tunes that have a strong dance beat (called clog music). Today's program in the Fort Warren courtyard on Georges Island features Diane Taraz's "The Lady in Black," about a ghost who hangs around the Fort Warren ruins. Check out David Rosen's pogo-cello, a rhythm instrument on a spring that bounces up and down. 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., weather permitting (repeats July 4). Free. Georges Island, Boston Harbor (check the website for ferry departures from Christopher Columbus Park). 617-223-8666. bostonislands.org [June Wulff]
