Liberty and music for all

June 28, 2008

With July Fourth less than a week away, it's time to start celebrating. The United States Air Force Band of Liberty is ready for action and has enlisted help from the American Belles, who will report for duty with Andrews Sisters-style World War II-era songs. Before the Belles take the stage as part of the Waterfront Concert Series in the North End, the Hanscom Field-based 60-piece band will salute New England composer Leroy Anderson and play several marches and popular tunes. Today's special guest is 14-year-old New York violin prodigy Peiwen Liao. 3 p.m., weather permitting. Free. Christopher Columbus Park, 110 Atlantic Ave., Boston. 617-635-4505. cityofboston.gov/parks [June Wulff]
