The life of Bryan

Globe Staff / July 2, 2008

When we asked Bryan McPherson (right) about opening for Chuck Berry in Boston a couple of months ago, the punk-y singer/songwriter summed it up in a word: "awesome." Born, bred, and still living in Dorchester, McPherson has a reputation for writing insightful, poetic tunes and putting on intense performances - a pretty awesome mix. Tonight, the guitarist and the other two members of his band will perform tracks from last year's "Fourteen Stories," as well as new material, older songs, and a few solo acoustic numbers. 8:30 p.m. $8. Johnny D's, 17 Holland St., Davis Square, Somerville. 617-776-2004. johnnyds.com
