Gidon Kremer at New Hampshire Music Festival - This particular concert has a way of popping off the summer calendar. While passing through northern New England for personal reasons, the superb Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer will make an unusual appearance at this regional festival, performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto as well as music by the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli. Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Silver Center for the Arts, Plymouth, N.H., 603-279-3300 or nhmf.org.

Tanglewood - The big concerts in the shed draw most of the attention, but the programming in the smaller Ozawa Hall should not be overlooked. On Wednesday, a formidable trio of young soloists - Jonathan Biss (piano), Julia Fischer (violin), Daniel Müller-Schott (cello) - performs chamber music by Ravel, Beethoven, and Handel/Halverson. And Thursday night, the Emerson String Quartet performs all three Brahms quartets. At 8 p.m., 617-266-1200 or tanglewood.org.
