Newport Folk Festival is mixing it up

For its 49th year, the Newport Folk Festival has tapped the indie, jam, and classic-rock scenes to help draw younger and different audiences to the venerable weekend hootenanny.

STEPHEN AND DAMIAN MARLEY While the son of another famous Bob (Jakob Dylan) revives a troubadour tradition this weekend, this pair will infuse the proceedings with some electrifying reggae. Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., Fort Stage

YOUNG@HEART CHORUS We're guessing they're the oldest acts on the bill - average age 82 - but this senior-citizens choir from Northampton is making its Newport debut with endearing takes on pop and rock classics. Tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., Harbor Stage

RICHIE HAVENS The soulful folk legend (left) first played the festival in 1966 and caught fire three years later at Woodstock. He returns this year behind a brand-new album, "Nobody Left to Crown." Tomorrow at 12:40 p.m., Fort Stage
