Brandi Carlile grew up camping and hiking in Ravensdale, Wash., but it was a decidedly less outdoorsy activity that shaped her future: listening to her parents' country music records. This is how she discovered the gutsy voice of Patsy Cline, who became one of the singer-songwriter's idols. You can catch Carlile in Lowell tonight before she heads to the Newport Folk Festival for a Sunday concert. Local singer and guitarist Jen Murdza opens the show with her blend of soul, rock, and jazz. 7:30 p.m. $26, $30 at the door. Boarding House Park, 40 French St., Lowell (rain location is the Lowell High School Auditorium). 978-970-5200. www.lowellsummermusic.org
