From Nashville to New York

Laura Cantrell lives in New York City, but when she sings - in bell-clear, dulcet tones - she takes you straight back to her hometown of Nashville. In fact, she sounds an awful lot like another songbird from the country-music capital, the legendary Kitty Wells. Since leaving Tennessee, Cantrell has gone on to become an ambassador for the music she grew up with, attracting a broad fan base that includes country purists and indie rockers. A new mother, Cantrell is touring behind "Trains and Boats and Planes," a covers album that has oddly slipped under the radar this year. She plays at Club Passim tonight. 8 p.m.. $15, $13 Passim members. Club Passim, 47 Palmer St., Harvard Square, Cambridge. 617-492-7679. www.clubpassim.com [James Reed]
