In the past couple of years, Latvian-born soprano Maija Kovalevska has been making debuts all over the world. Tonight it's time for her Boston Symphony Orchestra debut under the direction of music director James Levine. The BSO's opening-night concert of Russian music features the "Letter Scene" from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin," Glinka's Overture to "Ruslan and Ludmila," and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." Governor Patrick and the Mrs. will serve as honorary chairs for the gala, but they won't be singing. 6:30 p.m. (5:30 cocktail reception). $75-$2,500. Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Ave., Boston. 888-266-1200. www.bso.org
