Bossa nova means "new trend" in Portuguese, but now that this Brazilian music has been around for half a century, we should probably learn the word for "not-so-new." This week, Berklee Celebrates 50 Years of the Bossa Nova pays tribute to the samba-like style that hit the charts in 1963 with "The Girl From Ipanema," a song composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and recorded by Stan Getz and João Gilberto (whose wife, Astrud, provided the vocals). Pianist, arranger, and composer Cesar Camargo Mariano performs tonight and Friday with Berklee profs Jamey Haddad and Fernando Huergo, followed by a jam session with students. Mariano also plays Thursday at the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center in the South End. Tonight at 8. $10. Café 939, 939 Boylston St., Boston. 617-931-2000. www.ticketmaster.com
