Rock en Espanol
- |
Now in its second year, the Rock en Español Festival is still modest in scope and has yet to book a national headliner, but it's a good opportunity to see up-and-coming bands, mostly from New York. Along with Cordero, tonight's lineup includes:
RAFAEL GOMEZ Up until September Gomez lived in Boston, but now he's joined his compatriots on the New York music scene. The Venezuelan native has described his funk-tinged songs as "music for intergalactic enjoyment."
JUANCHO HERRERA Originally from Venezuela and now living in Brooklyn, Herrera has spent a long time behind the scenes - and he's got the YouTube videos to prove it. Herrera has played guitar with a range of artists, including Mexican-American firebrand Lila Downs, salsero Jerry Rivera, and Chilean jazz singer Claudia Acuña. His own songs lean toward electro-acoustic jazz and electronica.
SOULSA Born and bred in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood, long a champion of Latin music, the men of Soulsa like to call themselves fusionists. Like Santana, they're equal parts salsa and rock with a penchant for electric guitars. - J.R.![]()
