BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA James Levine, for his last appearances in Symphony Hall this season, leads a survey of Mozart symphonies. ANNE SOFIE VON OTTER and BRAD MEHLDAU The accomplished Swedish mezzo-soprano sings works by Sibelius and Reynaldo Hahn (partnered by Bengt Forsberg) and then joins the lyrical jazz pianist Brad Mehldau in standards as well as Mehldau's own "Love Songs." CHAMELEON ARTS ENSEMBLE
This adventurous chamber troupe presents the next in its series of programs mixing chamber music blockbusters with new or lesser-known works. This time it's Ravel's fiery violin showpiece "Tzigane" and Smetana's Piano Trio paired with music by Manuel de Falla, Judith Weir, and Chen Yi. Feb. 14 and 15. $18-$38. "MEAT THE COMPOSER" It's a show for those with both a healthy appetite for new music as well as just a healthy appetite, as the freewheeling Firebird Ensemble returns to Redbones barbecue restaurant in Somerville. While you dine on ribs and hush puppies, they perform hard-driving new music and edgy crossover. This year's program includes a set of Frank Zappa tunes as well as music by Curtis Hughes, percussionist Aaron Trant, and Weird Al. There will also be a piece by DJ Sparr called "The Glam Seduction."
