JAZZ
Contemporary, smooth, whatever
We've been told that it's called contemporary jazz, not smooth jazz, but whatever you want to call it, keyboardist Alex Bugnon and saxophonist Paul Taylor will play it tonight at Scullers Jazz Club. The former grew up in a musical family in Switzerland listening to Scott Joplin, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner. Bugnon adds funk, R&B, and a touch of gospel to his sound. Denver native Taylor started playing the sax at 7 and made his acting debut on the ABC soap "One Life to Live." Now that's smooth. 8 and 10 p.m. $28, $38 dinner and show. Scullers Jazz Club, Doubletree Guest Suites-Boston, 400 Soldiers Field Road, Boston. 617-562-4111. www.scullersjazz.com ![]()
