CLASSICAL MUSIC

BOSTON MODERN ORCHESTRA PROJECT

Gil Rose leads his intrepid new music band in the premieres of five works, including "In Medias Res" - a concerto for orchestra - by Lisa Bielawa, BMOP's composer in residence for the last three seasons. Also on the program will be new works by Geoffrey Gordon, Thomas Oboe Lee, Eric Moe, and the eloquent Lewis Spratlan. May 22 at 8 p.m., $10-$52, 617-363-0396 or www.bmop.org

BOSTON WAGNER SOCIETY

You don't typically find fully staged Wagner operas in this city thanks to the limitations of the local opera venues, but the Boston Wagner Society still does what it can to promote the composer's music. Soprano Julia Rolwing will sing selections from "Die Walkure" and "Tannhauser," partnered by pianist Lloyd Arriola, along with music by Strauss including the "Four Last Songs." May 23 at 8 p.m., Pickman Hall, Longy School of Music, 617-323-6088 or www.bostonwagnersociety.org
