Seth Justman, J. Geils Band keyboardist

Seth Justman has been listening to music longer than he's been playing it, and that's saying something considering he began hammering away on the piano when he was still in short pants. (He was playing by the age of 5.) Though an R&B fanatic from way back, Justman has an appetite for all kinds of music, jazz and classical included. We tracked him down after the band's second recent sold-out show at the House of Blues - one of four gigs J. Geils has played this year - and asked to inspect his iPod. "Which one?" he replied. He owns three, but ended up sharing songs from the one that has very few songs because it's curated. ("It's groomed, man.")

1. "The Difficult Kind," Sheryl Crow

2. "Modus Operandi," Michael Brecker Quindectet

3. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," Gladys Knight and the Pips

4. "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)," Sly and the Family Stone

5. "Rainbow '65 Part 1 and 2," Gene Chandler

6. "Fire," Jimi Hendrix

7. "Blue Train," John Coltrane

8. "Broken English," Marianne Faithfull

9. "That Same Thing," Muddy Waters

10. "I Got the Feelin'," James Brown

Total songs: 341

Sorry we missed: Franck's Symphony in D Minor, which had a profound effect on the young music student. "I swear to God, it was my first sexual experience," says Justman. "I didn't know what to do with those emotions."
