A year ago, Italy's National Day prevented us from visiting a museum there. We blame our spouse for not planning around the holiday. You can celebrate today's 63d anniversary of the birth of the republic when the New England String Ensemble presents "Concerto per la Repubblica." Music director Federico Cortese conducts a program of Respighi, Puccini, Mascagni, and Verdi. VIPs include honorary cochairs, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Angela Menino, and Liborio Stellino, the consul general of Italy. NESE youth concerto competition winners Joinatsuru Yanai (cello) and Jacob Shack (viola) will also perform.
