KEITH LOCKHART, Boston Pops conductor

Lockhart uses his iPod as much for work as for play. The baby-faced baton twirler says he’ll load tunes by artists who may be working with the Pops and then sit at his desk to listen and evaluate. Otherwise, Lockhart, who’ll be at the Esplanade tomorrow to conduct the Pops’ annual Fourth of July extravaganza, says he and wife Emiley Zalesky use their iPod like the rest of us: They push play and clean the kitchen. “The fun stuff on it is on playlists that we use as a mix tape,’’ he says. “Who else do you know who has Death Cab for Cutie and Mahler’s 9th Symphony on the same iPod?’’ Last week, Lockhart agreed to take his iPod for a spin, and this is what we heard:

1. “Wordless Chorus,’’ My Morning Jacket

2. “Someone to Watch Over Me,’’ Nancy Wilson

3. “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,’’ Jim Croce

4. “New York, New York,’’ Michael Feinstein

5. “Glass Onion,’’ the Beatles

6. “Samba da Bencao,’’ Bebel Gilberto

7. “Symphony No. 9,’’ (2nd movement) Schubert

8. “Blitzstein’s ‘Regina’,’’ (excerpt)

9. “The Miraculous Mandarin,’’ Bartok

10. “Christmas Time (Oh Yeah),’’ Barenaked Ladies

Total songs: 2,122

Glad we missed: “There is no Britney Spears, though there probably is a recording of ‘Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer’ on my Christmas mix.’’
