If the kids aren’t excited about listening to classical music on a Sunday afternoon, tell them that the Lawrence Classical Music Series concerts also provide funny anecdotes and refreshments. And if that doesn’t entice them, give them a pass on their homework. Today’s music covers four centuries with works by Henry Purcell, Robert Schumann, Noel Coward, and Scott Wheeler. Boston mezzo-soprano Krista River will be accompanied by pianist Brett Hodgdon. The one-hour, all-ages concerts continue on Oct. 18 and Nov. 15. Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. Free. Lawrence Public Library’s Sargent Auditorium, 51 Lawrence St., Lawrence. 978-794-5786. www.lawrencefreelibrary.org
