According to music director Steven Lipsitt, Leslie Parnas is “one of those world-class artists who just happen to live here.’’ The award-winning musician, often referred to as Pablo Casals’s favorite cellist, happens to be featured when the Boston Classical Orchestra opens its 30th season tonight in a program honoring the bicentennials of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. Tonight at 8, Sunday at 3 p.m. (free lecture for ticketholders one hour before each concert). $34-$63, $18 students, $3 senior and teacher discount. Faneuil Hall at Quincy Market, Boston. 617-423-3883. www.bostonclassicalorchestra.org
