What took them so long? Community leaders and Dorchester businesses have established the first Irish Heritage Festival to honor the history and culture of Boston’s Irish community. This is the same neighborhood that hosted Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton when the former presidents visited the Eire Pub during their terms in office. Entertainment duties will be handled by Robbie O’Connell, Aoife Clancy, the Harney Set Dancers, Celtic Cougars, U2 cover band Joshua Tree, and others. There will be Gaelic sports and kids’ activities. Oct. 11, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., rain or shine. Free. Adams Corner, Dorchester. 617-201-7866. www.irishheritage festival.com
