It was in a shoe factory in Maine where Ray LaMontagne decided to become a singer. It wasn’t the hum of machines or a co-worker’s chanting that moved him, but hearing Stephen Stills sing “Treetop Flyer’’ on the radio. The breathy-voiced singer-songwriter (who was born in New Hampshire) will play a solo acoustic show in support of “Gossip in the Grain,’’ with opening chores handled by Dave Gutter. Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. $29.50-$45. Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St., Boston. 866-448-7849. www.livenation.com
