1969 Steven Tyler meets Joe Perry in Sunapee, N.H.

1971 The band’s classic lineup - Tyler, Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer - is in place.

1973 First album released.

1979 Perry departs.

1981 Whitford departs.

1984 Perry and Whitford return.

1986-87 “Walk This Way’’ with Run-DMC is released, reigniting a comeback. The band members clean up.

1998 The band releases its only No. 1 single, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.’’

2001 Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

2004 Last studio album, “Honkin’ on Bobo,’’ is released.

2006 Tyler has throat surgery; Hamilton treated for throat cancer; Tyler reveals he has hepatitis C.

May 2008 Tyler enters rehab to treat a painkiller problem related to foot surgeries.

June 2008 Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is released.

August 2009 Aerosmith scraps its summer tour after Tyler falls from a stage.
