TANGLEWOOD Michael Tilson Thomas returns Friday to lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms’’ and Mozart’s Requiem. Saturday, he conducts the students of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra in Mahler’s Third Symphony. Sunday’s matinee is given over to Keith Lockhart and the Pops. The festival closes with the Brentano String Quartet (Friday); the violinist Midori in recital (Saturday); and a program (Sunday) linking Brahms with newer music by Steve Reich, Lukas Foss, and others. MARLBORO MUSIC It’s opening weekend for the chamber music festival, celebrating its 60th anniversary season. To mark the occasion, Marlboro musicians will offer a free concert Friday night, with works by Mozart, Dohnanyi, and Dvorak. The regular season continues with performances Saturday night (Bartok, Martin, Mendelssohn, and Brahms) and Sunday afternoon (Haydn, Brahms, Ravel, Dvorak).
