Opera junkies can’t score a much purer hit than “Tosca.’’ Giacomo Puccini’s 1900 melodrama mainlines passion, jealousy, sex, and vengeance with such brilliantly ruthless efficiency that even a comparatively bad production is a decent fix. So when the production is as good as Boston Lyric Opera’s season-opening offering at the Shubert Theatre, it’s potent stuff. (Full article: 542 words)
