I take it so seriously.’’ Indeed, as we skip cavalierly from Led Zeppelin to the Beach Boys, Phair feels bad that we’re not listening through to what each song might have to say. “I feel like I’m swearing in church,’’ she says with a laugh. “People wonder why my records are so varied. This is why.’’
