MR. GOODBAR

Friday at Oberon, 2 Arrow St., Cambridge. Cover: $12. 10 p.m.-1 a.m. 18+. 617-496-8004, www.cluboberon.com

The Deal: After a seven-month hiatus, the Mr. GoodBar funk party is back with a new theme for the event, SUPERPARADISE. It’s a pre-civilized fantasy land; partygoers are encouraged to come in costume as fur-pelted barbarians, dragons, metal-bikini-clad Amazon women, or at least in togas. The GoodBar dance squad will be performing a number from Showgirls called “Goddess,’’ and there will be a drag act. Mr. GoodBar was created by DJ James Cerne. Cerne said he and others plan the spectacular Mr. GoodBar celebration twice a year at Oberon. “We really encourage people to dress up and have fun with it. We give them themes and parameters; we want them to go and have a really good time and feel good about themselves,’’ Cerne said.

The DJs: Cerne will be joined by DJs Nathanael Bluhm and Joseph Colbourne. They’ll be playing a mix of funk, deep disco, and retro gold from the ’70s and ’80s.

Who goes there? “It’s a gay event for the most part, but everyone is welcome,’’ Cerne said. “We keep attitude to a minimum and fun and creativity to a maximum. That’s something you don’t always get in the gay scene.’’

Three songs you might hear: “Voulez-Vous’’ by Abba, “There But for the Grace of God Go I’’ by Machine, “You Make Me Feel Mighty Real’’ by Sylvester.

The drink: “It’s 18-plus, so a Shirley Temple is fine, but for those who can drink . . . a SUPERPARADISE, I just made that up. It’s bourbon with a mixer, the mixer is rum,’’ Cerne said.

The tip: “Leave your inhibitions and any attitude at home, come dressed for the occasion and ready to make a new friend or two,’’ Cerne said.
