In short order, piano-playing singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles - the woman behind hits such as “Love Song’’ and “King of Anything’’- will be juggling three facets of her career. On Tuesday she comes to the Bank of America Pavilion on her continuing tour for her sophomore album, “Kaleidoscope Heart.’’ On Sept. 19, fans of NBC’s a cappella singing competition, “The Sing-Off,’’ will see Bareilles slide into the judges’ chair between Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman. Between tapings, Folds is producing Bareilles’s new EP.

The California native says to expect five or six songs and “lots of piano’’ as well as a variety of sounds including tubas and men’s choirs. “Because it’s an EP, it can be a little bit of a departure,’’ she says. “It doesn’t have to be my next calculated musical statement.’’

We chatted with the bubbly singer - who performed in an a cappella group herself at UCLA - recently in Los Angeles about the five reasons she said yes to “The Sing-Off.’’

1. “Because, I love this show. I really was a fan.’’

2. “I really believe a cappella music deserves accolades and acknowledgment. It’s so difficult and it’s such a wonderful genre, and it’s really nice to see it get the attention it deserves.’’

3. “The cast: Ben, Shawn, and [host] Nick [Lachey] are all amazing human beings, so funny, so smart, so articulate. I feel like I’m learning a lot from them.’’

4. “I wanted to challenge myself. I’ve gotten very comfortable as a touring musician. Even in speaking to Ben before I agreed to the show, he said it was a great way to wear a different hat. And it is a whole different world.’’

5. “They pay me to sit front row for some of the best a cappella music I’ve ever seen.’’

Sara Bareilles performs at the Bank of America Pavilion on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $21-$37.50. 800-745-3000. www.livenation.com.
